From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- However, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the group reach areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.
What’s Next?
According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
